There are things people just don’t want to talk about, Real Self Defense is one of them. I did a post back a while ago on the 13 Misconception of an Knife Attacks.  Many people read the post, but most of all I got feed back on how uncomfortable it make them.  Good! It was supposed to make you uncomfortable and to THINK.

People don’t like to discuss hard topics, but that does not make them go away!

Real Training for Self Defense

There are a TON of combat systems out there. I remember once I met a kid to bought some “navy seals” videos and figured he was now a master. When I saw what he knew I laughed, I should not have, but I did. We taught that to Yellow Belts.  How do you know what is BS when you see it? They will show you ABC and say, “when the attacker does this, you do that.”  They all forgot about “D!”

In a one on one situation, a situation were no weapons or outside interfere is going to happen you might be able to trust your current skills. However this is were many martial artists get in trouble. They win a few one on ones, then somehow believe they can handle a knife or gun encounter.

The picture I am using in this article is an great example of some of the BS being taught today. Let’s look at what is wrong with it shall we?

  1. You will NEVER pull a full grown man forward into this position. That is fantasy!
  2. The knee takes you off balance, makes it easy for the attacker to take you down and step on your HEAD.  Plus it will not do the damage you think it will do. The body mechanics are BAD.
  3. He is choking you. The only thing you will be thinking of is breathing!

I could go on, but you get the picture I am sure.

Yes there is HOPE for this Situation.

If you now envision this picture, the man pressing the woman against a wall, choking her, there is something she could do and end it fast.  It would be in her power range and ability to strike several different pressure points on the head and neck and DROP THIS GUY, so she could make her escape.

Assuming you have some martial arts or self defense training I can offer you the ability to enhance it, make it more effective and change the game.
