Adding Kyusho to Krav Maga

Can you add Kyusho to Krav Maga? I was asked this question recently and the answer is a very loud YES! You can do it without having to alter what Krav Maga teaches, and it will improve the effectiveness of the system tremendously!

What is Krav Maga? It is a military self defense and fighting system developed for the Israel Defense Forces and Israeli security forces. Which is a combination of many different martial art styles. Incorporating a realistic, or as close as you can get, fight training. Krav Maga is also in my view one of the best marketing systems in the world, achieving global recognition, like BJJ and Taekwondo has.

Why Add Kyusho?

I have never trained in Krav Maga. However I do know many people who have, and have spent many hours watching the system. Like all systems it has its strengths and its weakness. Nothing is ever perfect!

What weakness do I see? First the fights go on too long. That is OK from training standpoint, however the longer a battle goes the greater the odds of losing. Second and most of all is missed opportunity!

Opportunity for elbow dislocates when there is not proper leverage to use power, but a pressure point would work. Most of all missed neurological knockouts that are the fastest way to end a confrontation hands down.

Please understand I am not knocking Krav Maga. It has proven to be an effective system just by its popularity alone. However there is also room for growth. If you are a Krav Maga practitioner and would like to know more about incorporating Kyusho Jitsu into your system feel free to contact me. I can be reached by email at
